Praia do Porto de Mós - the best beach for kids in Lagos
Praia do Porto de Mós is my favorite beach in Lagos for children, especially at low tide.
At low tide, small pools form at Porto de Mós, which are perfect for kids to splash around and dig in. Always check the tide before you go (e.g. here). There are parking spaces right on the beach, so you only have to walk a short distance. There are also two restaurants there (nothing sensational that I would explicitly recommend, but ok): the O António and the Campimar. This beach is also perfect for a short stroll.
"I love being at Porto de Mós early in the morning, when we still have the whole beach almost to ourselves. It's the best start to the day!"
What should you bring (apart from the usual things for the beach, of course)? A parasol (if you don't want to rent one on site) or a beach shell, as there is no shade on this beach (unfortunately the problem with most beaches in the Algarve).
For the summer months, definitely bring bathing shoes for the kids, as there is a very poisonous fish in the water during the warmer months (spiderfish). As it is almost unrecognizable, there is a risk of accidentally stepping into it. The sting of this fish is said to be very, very painful and must be doused with hot water immediately.
I also recommend that younger children take a wetsuit with them so that they can play in the water for longer, even when it gets a bit cooler.
How to get there: By car (parking lot directly on the beach), by bus (bus stop: Porto de Mós - Praia) or of course on foot (note: at the end it is quite a steep downhill and then uphill on the way back).
Child-friendliness: small pools at low tide
Gastronomy: O António and Campimar
Address: Praia do Porto de Mós
Bonus tip: This is also the starting point of the beautiful Fishermen's Trail over to Luz.

A sunrise trip to Praia Dona Ana in Lagos is one of those unforgettable family moments. Whether you’re here on holiday or enjoying an extended parental leave in Portugal, this early morning outing is a simple yet soul-filling experience the whole family will love.
